SEAN DOVE KICKSTARTS JAMES BOND-INSPIRED ‘LAST DAYS OF DANGER’ ART BOOK
I’ve been getting back into James Bond movies pretty heavily over the past few months, but my interest in the world’s most famous spy is clearly small change compared to Sean Dove. In December, Dove took on a project called “#Decembond,” where he drew a piece of art inspired by all 23 James Bond movies. Now, he’s collecting them all in a hardcover called Last Days of Danger and using Kickstarter to fund the printing.

At 56 pages, the book not only includes the art, but also commentary for each film based on Dove’s experience watching them for the project, but really, that’s just icing on the cake. The art alone is worth the price of admission.

This is an illustration I did for my friend, Dai’s, PhD thesis. A part of his thesis involved a study around how some gay men (particularly those of a minority status) negotiate being gay outside of mainstream gay culture. One story that really stood out to me as being quite unique and touching involved a middle-aged fellow who has never been intimate with another man, doesn’t necessarily identify as being gay, but spends his days knitting baby socks on park benches and on the train as a way to perform his ‘gayness’. As he still lives at home with an extremely conservative family this is essentially the only way he knows to express his sexuality.

BOOM! STUDIOS UNVEILS ITS EMERALD CITY COMICON 2014 EXCLUSIVES

Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con 2014 is just around the corner, and while I’ve been trying to figure out if I can make it to the very first Starbucks to complete my tour of original chain restaurant locations (I went to the first KFC back in 2005, there is a museum attached), the folks at Boom! Studios have been busy with a new set of variant covers! They’ll be offering a handful of Emerald City exclusive covers at the show, and they’re all pretty awesome.

Check our site to see the roster of ECCC variants, including a Nirvana-inspired take on Adventure Time, a new look at Lumberjanes #1, a Punch-Out!! homage for Regular Show: Skips, and a new cover for The Midas Flesh #1 by Sex Criminals artist Chip Zdarsky!

Do you have a story for the current S2B2 Girl Special that is done/nearly done that you’d like to see illustrated? I hate to sit around doing nothing, and I’d love to draw something for you!

If anyone is interested, hit me up. (Samples)

We love illustrated stories, and many fabulous artists have volunteered! But with pictures or not, if you’re doing a story for our Earth, Wind, and Fire special issue, it’s due Tuesday.

Wolf Among Us
This game is super awesome. I’ve enjoyed reading many Fables comics before, and the Telltale redesigns are really appealing!
Also, Bigby. :| <3
I’m printing out some to take with me to ECCC, but I know the printer isn’t going to come close to the sweet, eye bleeding magenta colour that I picked out for the neon-ness of the whole thing. Sigh, such is life!
