2014 Shousetsu Bang*Bang Themes

shousetsubangbang:

While we have great respect and sympathy for those folk who like flying by the seat of their pants, we also understand the ones who feel most comfortable when they’re planning ahead. With that in mind, we’ve put our heads together and conjured up the theme schedule for next year’s issues:

FEBRUARY: ON THE AIR
Coming to you live from an undisclosed location, now accepting all callers.

MARCH: EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE (F/F SPECIAL)
The time has once again come for the ancient and noble art of ladybending.

APRIL: A.I.
His brain may be positronic, but his heart is real.

JUNE: FATHERS’ DAY
We have taken to referring to this as our ‘daddy issue’ and are unlikely to stop anytime soon.

JULY: COLOR WHEEL (YES, AND SPECIAL)
Calling all rainbows!

AUGUST: THE SOLDIERING LIFE
Seamen, rear admirals, and other brothers in arms, it’s time for you to report for duty.

SEPTEMBER: FOUR SEASONS (ARTIST SPECIAL)
A discourse on the transitory nature of life and the passage of time. Either that, or a really swanky hotel.

OCTOBER: UNDER THE SEA
Since life is better down where it’s wetter.

DECEMBER: THEME-FREE BIG BANG*BANG
And as always, the sky’s the limit!

Future Themes Suggestion Post

shousetsubangbang:

Even though we’re only halfway through 2013, we’re already looking forward to 2014, especially when it comes to next year’s themes. And since we haven’t done it officially in a while, we figured it’d be nice to open up a space here for suggestions! If you’ve got a good idea, feel free to leave it here in comments, anonymously or otherwise.

And if LJ’s just not your thing, fear not! You can always tweet at , email us at shousetsubangbang@gmail, or leave a Tumblr ask! We’re more interested in the hearing than in the how of it.

~*~

Want to participate? It’s easy! Signup posts go up about two months before each issue, both for a nonbinding way of declaring commitment and for authors to hook up with volunteer illustrators. Regardless of whether or not you signed up beforehand, stories are due in our inbox by the Tuesday before the issue goes live, and all standalone images/illustrations are due by the Saturday before. You can find more rules and details in our mission statement.

The more formal tumblr post will go up later today, but the Hookers and Blackjack signups are already open! Surely at least one of these fine themes calls to you…

2013 Themes

shousetsubangbang:

For those of you who like to plan ahead, the list of 2012 themes is a good place to go to get future ideas percolating. However, for those of you who really like to plan ahead, we’ve already got 2013’s themes worked out too! We went through the previous suggestions and feedback, took from those the ones we thought would make the most successful issues, added a few twists of our own devising, and voila:

FEBRUARY: HOOKERS AND BLACKJACK
Build your own theme park! But remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

MARCH: TEA FOR TWO (F/F SPECIAL)
How do you ladies take your tea? Hot? Sweet? Spiked?

APRIL: PLAYING DOCTOR
Whether you’re suffering from a broken heart or a terminal case of handsomeness, the doctor is in.

JUNE: HEROES AND VILLAINS
Calling all caped crusaders and men of steel: your city needs you now more than ever.

AUGUST: ON WRITING
Bibliophiles, rejoice! This issue celebrates books and the people who like to create, compile, collect, critique, and/or consume them.

SEPTEMBER: DISTANT SHORES (ARTIST SPECIAL)
Our third artist special focuses on far-off places and the fun of going (or not going) there.

OCTOBER: MASQUERADE
Mistaken identities? Clever disguises? Elaborate costuming? Who was that masked man?

DECEMBER: THEME-FREE (BIG BANG*BANG)
And as always, if you want your big story to have its big break, December’s the month to do it: the sky’s the (word) limit.

We’ll work a more detailed schedule of due dates and publication dates as this year winds to a close, but the general pattern will be the same: publication dates are on one of the last Mondays of their respective months, with the artist deadline the Saturday before and the author deadline the Tuesday before.

Also, we’re still looking for some cover artists to grace the front of some of our 2012 and 2013 issues! If you’re interested in being the first thing everyone sees, drop us an email (shousetsubangbang at gmail) and we’ll let you know what’s available.

Look what goodies await! Start planning ahead….
